Thanks for compiling this in one place. There are so many, but these are definitely the ones that come to mind first. I think John Halbrooks is great too. However, I’m definitely an active member of Close Reads — even attending their NC retreats.

Zina, I love that you’ve been able to attend the Close Reads retreats. My sister actually attended the one they had in the fall. She loved it so much.

This is great list and I am grateful we found each other. I appreciate you including me. What I love about this is there is likely something for everyone to find one or two places to join and connect. I am excited about your venture and your love for great literature. Keep up the great work!

Was Close Reads supposed to be numbered? If so then the number is more like 12 Great list!

Good catch, Zina. :) I went back and looked at it, and I saw that Close Reads wasn't numbered, you're right. But then, the numbering skipped from 9 to 11 at the end. Go figure. It is 11 total.... but there are so many great groups out there, it could be 12 and beyond! :D

I’m so glad to have bumped into you this morning. I’m a long-time listener and subscriber to Close Reads and discovered Reading Revisited a few months ago and have enjoyed it so much too. I’m excited to delve into your archive and read along with War and Peace (just finishing the first part today, so your podcast/substack is a timely discovery)!

That’s great, Pam. I’m glad you found us, too. Just a heads up as you go through our archives: we started with Demon Copperhead and didn’t have the audio set correctly. So, unless you listen to it with headphones (and even then it’s weird—my voice in one ear, Rhea’s in the other), you won’t be able to hear it well. The podcast episodes prior to Demon Copperhead are actually from another podcast I hosted for a time called Beauty & the Arts (Rhea did some of those episodes with me) and then imported into The Reader & the Writer. Very literary in nature, but not deep reads like we do now.

Happy reading!
