Do you think the onset of books with multiple povs is the 21st century writer’s attempt at bringing the omniscient narrative back for the 21st reader?

There is definitely something to this... I don't know that it's a conscious effort to "bring back" the omniscient narrator exactly. From a reader's perspective, a multi-p.o.v. story still reads much different than a traditional omniscient-style narrative. I think there is a sense of more immediate intimacy with characters in multiple pov's, than with an omniscient narrated story.

But, from an author's perspective, a multiple pov story is the same work of realizing many p.o.v.'s, and of inhabiting (as they are creating) many psyches to bring these alive on the page and weave them into a forward moving narrative.

So... not completely... but also, yes, quite possibly... ha! 😆
