This is lovely advice. I was planning on doing a poem Note every day of April and I'll restack this with the first few. Thank you for collecting this advice and I'll see what I can come up with!
This is what I’m currently looking for in a group - I’ve proposed it to a poetry group and am not seeing much understanding of what I’m talking about so far. Some fairly established poets, too, so I don’t know if it’s just anxiety? Anyways, thanks for speaking my language!
Sorry for this belated reply, Isaiah. I was out of the country the first half of April, and then had the Easter holiday to attend to. I'm also an admittedly slow reply-er. 😣
I really appreciate your comments here. Mostly because it was from a position of one who is not a poet but has a deep desire to read poetry more often and more carefully that I wrote this post. But, I have no idea if I'm hitting the mark at all. I'm only going by how I approach reading creative works in general. So, I admit to having a bit of insecurity about offering suggestions--even though I did.
It's also why I'm hesitant to offer to lead such a group, though I am feeling the nudge. But then, where to offer it... here on Substack? Aren't there already other more capable offerings out there? Also, there's the online community v. real community aspect. But, I'm not sure in my live circles there is that much interest.
Yeah, of course - I find it interesting that as you say you might have less experience as a poet, but you understand its purpose more than most poets do. I would encourage you to do it - I think there's a need for it (at least in a few). More experienced poets have a lot of knowledge and yet don't have the tact and common sense it seems you have. Thanks Shari :)

Wonderful, Jo! You’re welcome, and thank you for restacking :) Happy poetry reading this April!

I'm scratching my head over it, too.
