A Few Creative Offerings
Borrowing time while I formulate my thoughts on cultivating imagination
Happy Friday, everyone!
I sat down yesterday afternoon to work on Part 2 of the imagination posts I started last week. Alas, half way through, I came to the conclusion that I needed more time to best formulate my thoughts and curate my ideas in a way I will be pleased to offer you.
However, I didn’t want to stand you up. I enjoy our Fridays together. So, I thought I’d share a few resources that have recently helped me stoke my imagination.
If you’ve been following Rhea and I on the podcast, you know we’re reading Lincoln in the Bardo this month. In a great coincidence, English and Albanian singer-songwriter, Dua Lipa, is featuring Lincoln in the Bardo on her monthly bookclub. Who knew Rhea and I were so relevant?! ; ) It would seem great minds think alike (or, it’s spooky Halloween month and Lincoln in the Bardo has as its main characters a host of ghosts).
There is a host of great material on Dua Lipa’s October bookclub page featuring all things George Saunders and Lincoln in the Bardo. I especially loved the interview between Dua Lipa and George, and the video George made helping readers feel more comfortable getting into the strange and unconventional format of the book.
I embedded both the videos below, but I encourage you go to the site and geek out on all that Dua Lipa offers readers.
A couple creative sources I’ve been following for years now that help stoke my imagination in relation to my faith:
Christian.art - A daily Gospel reading with paired artwork and reflection. The artwork at the top of this post is from Thursday’s reflection.
Art and Theology - A blog focused on: “Revitalizing the Christian imagination through painting, poetry, music and more.”
Finally, I’m excited to be going with a group of friends to see the stage adaptation of The Screwtape Letters, a production by Fellowship of Performing Arts, on December 3rd at the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech University. Before the show I hope to lead a reading discussion with members of the group going. Don’t be surprised if you see some Screwtape Letters talk here on the Reader & the Writer in the coming weeks.
How are you stoking your imagination these days?
Stay tuned next week for thoughts on ways we can cultivate our imaginations.
Much Love to you all,
Shari
Great selection ❤️ I've signed up for the daily art email 👍
